The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said the country ‘is not safe in the hands of the presidential candidate of the APC, Muhammadu Buhari, and his party’. Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, Osun State, to announce President Goodluck Jonathan will be campaigning in the state, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Wale Oladipo, a professor, said Buhari and his party men are “dangerous to democracy.” Oladipo said “Buhari has only said he would clamp corrupt politicians in jail without resorting to court. He said he would stop insurgency. Ask him how? He does not know because he does not mean what he is saying. ďBuhari jailed somebody 301 years for allegedly stealing N5,000. He jailed the late Chief Bola Ige, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Sam Mbakwe and others without trial.” Oladipo asked the people to vote Jonathan in next month’s elections because “the President is doing a lot to keep the country going. It would have been worse if not for the wisdom he [Jonathan] is using to direct the affairs of the nation.” ďNigeria is safe in the hands of President Goodluck Jonathan,” he said. Oladipo also said the PDP was not perturbed that people in APC strongholds collected the Permanent Voters Cards the most. According to him, there is no evidence the collectors are APC members. Oladipo asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that every registered voter was allowed to vote in the February elections. Oladipo described those deploring Jonathan for deploying soldiers on election duty as hypocrites. He said the PDP did not use the soldiers to rig election but ensure adequate security. He also accused the APC of annuling PDP victories in few local government areas it won, citing Ikoyi\Obalende he alleged was won by Musiliu Obanikoro’s son as an example.
