Ijaw leader Edwin Clark has said Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, could stop insurgency in the northeast, as he claimed, because the terrorists obey him.
Clark, in an interview with journalists last week, stated that "If Buhari comes and it (insurgency) stops, it is because they listen to him. It is easier for them to stop it." Clark said he finds a justification in a recent statement by the United States of America on the likely link between boko haram activities in the northeast and the forthcoming elections.
Clark also expressed pessimism for the peace accord signed by candidates for next month's presidential election, including President Goodluck Jonathan and Buhari.
"Buhari cannot be trusted to keep the agreement," Clark said. To him, having refused to appear before a truth and reconciliation commission headed by late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa some years ago, Buhari is unlikely to honour the pact.
Aside Buhari, a former Military president, Ibrahim Babangida, also shunned the panel's invite.
Clark, a federal information commissioner in the fiirst republic, equally accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of working against Jonathan's interest to favour Buhari.
He said of Obasanjo: "Obasanjo is defending him because he wants APC to win. A man you dissolved his committee, PTF, could not account for N25billion and you are now saying that the man is not corrupt… Buhari and Obasanjo are the same. They are in a marriage of convenience just to remove Jonathan. How much corruption have you found in Jonathan that you are calling him corrupt?”
Clark said he would rather Obasanjo was expelled from the PDP.
‘’That man (Obasanjo) should not be allowed to be in the party. You beg him all the time; he has made up his mind. He gathered APC women to abuse President Jonathan", he stated.
