President Goodluck Jonathan at the flag-off of his campaign in Lagos scoffed at former Head of State and presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari’s, declaration to stamp out insurgency, saying the later did not buy a single rifle to equip the Nigerian Army during his tenure.
The event which held at the Tafawa Balewa Square had in attendance PDP governors, party bigwigs and governorship candidates of the party for next month election.
Jonathan said, ‘‘They said Nigerian Army is weak, they have employed people to be misleading youths, ask them when Buhari was the Head of State how many riffles did he buy for the Nigerian Army? These are people, who couldn’t buy equipment for the Nigerian Army, ask them what they did with their defence budget? Which country equips her military overnight?
The president assured he would not relent in the fight against insurgency and promised to implement the reports of the National Conference, if re-elected.
‘‘I refused to present the document of the National Conference to the National Assembly because of the chaotic state of the Upper House, but I promise you that if re-elected I will present the report to the new senators for them to deliberate on it and make necessary amendment,’’ Jonathan said.
The president said his address was targeted at youths, asking them to either vote him to be relevant or vote his older competitor to be irrelevant. The president said he is young at heart and understands what the youths truly desires and promised to create two million employment opportunities if re-elected.
