Court Jails 24 Men, 3 Women For Drug Offences

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in Akwa Ibom State on Monday said it convicted through a federal court 24 male and three female drug offenders respectively in 2014. Ruth Obi, the state NDLEA commander, made the statement. She said those convicted were among the 401 suspects arrested in 2014. Obi also stated that in the year gone by 228 litres of combine (mixture of cannabis sativa and alcohol) were among drug seized during the agency’s operations. Obi said of the 401 persons arrested, 353 were males, 48 females, 35 abandoned exhibits and N138, 630 monetary exhibits recovered. The statistics are asise 157.373 kilogrammes and 22 litres of combine Obi said was seized from the suspects. Obi added that the anti-drug agency referred 163 drug users, comprising 142 males and 11 females for counseling, and held130 drug preventive lectures in schools and advocacy talks from primary to tertiary institutions.
