Ekiti State Assembly legislators of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Friday, denied they visited the assembly on Thursday night with the intent of gatecrashing to steal the mace, as alleged by the factional Speaker Dele Olugbemi.
Olugbemi alleged 11out of the 19 APC legislators were behind the plot, asking stakeholders to condemn the act and rally round Governor Ayodele Fayose. Olugbemi said he became aware of the purported gatecrashing by the lawmakers around 7p.m on the said day and promptly order a security beef up around the complex. Rebutting Olugbemi’s claims, Majority Leader, Churchill Adedipe, said the allegation was another mischief from the PDP camp.
“Nobody went there among our members. We won’t perpetrate illegality because we are law abiding citizens. We won’t enter the place by force. We are honorable men and would not act like evil men.
“What would we be doing in the place at night? We would ride on the back of law to get back to that Assembly,” he said.
The embattled Speaker Omirin, who is challenging his removal by the PDP group in court, said the opposing group hoped to get public sympathy by making such allegation.
Omirin’s media aide, Wole Olujobi, according to Punch, said “Nobody was there yesterday (Thursday). It is just a strategy to get security agencies attention.”
