The immediate past governor of Lagos State Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has scored his successor Governor Babatunde Fashola high, stressing that the incumbent surpassed his achievements.
Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC on Wednesday in Lagos hailed Fashola's administration because the present administration constructed roads, built and remodelled some schools, created employment for youths and healthcare delivery among other things.
Tinubu was quoted by P.M.News Newspaper as saying: ‘‘In the year 2007, I handed over to one young man, brought him to you and said he would perform better, a man with sound brain and mind; that person is Babatunde Fashola. He didn’t disgrace us, I thank God for eight years of excellent performance, unbroken promises, sound experience and constructive government.’’
In his response, Fashola commended his predecessor for his selfless service to Lagos State and the APC, “You built the pillar and foundation upon which we stand,’’ the governor said.
Speaking ahead of the 28 February gubernatorial election Fashola urged Lagosians to vote for APC’s candidate Akinwunmi Ambode because he has what it takes to sustain the development of the state, ‘‘Go to your wards and INEC offices in your various Local Government Areas, LGAs and obtain your Permanent Voters Card, PVC’s. You have till 31 January to do so if you want Ambode to win. Your right to vote is not the gift of any government, it is a right you have as a citizen in any part of the world, where democracy is practised,’’ said Fashola.
