Even as the controversy over his certificate is yet to settle, the health of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, has reared another debate between his party and a governor of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ayodele Fayose. The APC Presidential Campaign Organisation has taken Fayose to task on his allegation that Buhari suffers a health challenge. The Ekiti State governor also alleged it was former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s plan to impose Buhari on the nation knowing he lacks good health, as he did in the case of late President Umaru Yar’Adua. In a statement on Friday, the Buhari campaign organisation described Fayose’s comment as “unsolicited, utterly silly and reckless”. Garba Shehu, the organisation’s spokesman said Buhari, a retired military general, “is fit as a fiddle and has no known ailment and is in excellent condition to pilot the affairs of the country.” Shehu noted that Buhaari is “almost a health freak,” who exercises regularly and undergoes medical examinations at regular intervals,’ for good measure. “On each occasion, the outcomes of those medicals have been favourable. The recent medicals he did gave him a clean bill of health,” Shehu added. Shehu said were Buhari given to swearing, he would have laid curses on those wishing him bad health, as a former Nigerian leader and President Nnamdi Azikiwe did when a similar mischief was played on him. Zik, Shehu recalls, “swore that whoever did this to him will expire before him, and they all did.” He asked Nigerians to disregard Fayose’s comment, knowing him for his over-exuberance.
