The Federal Ministry of Power, on Monday, informed it had shut gas supply to the damaged Trans Forcados pipeline, at Oteghele area, in Bayelsa State, vandalised during the weekend. Power Minister, Chinedu Nebo, a professor, explained that “all oil and gas production into this pipeline has been shut down to allow for damage assessment and repairs”.
Nebo said although the duration of the repairs has not been determined, the incident “is expected to reduce the volume of gas available for power generation whilst the situation lasts.”
He described the occurrence as “painful”. He said some vandals previously arrested through collaborative effort between the power ministry and the country’s security apparatus.
