Gunmen Sack Police Station, Kill Three, Burn Patrol Vehicle In Lagos

Gunmen at about 10 p.m, Monday, stormed a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos State, killed two policemen and a commercial motorcycle rider. The assailants, thought to be pipeline vandals in the area, reportedly caught the policemen at the Owotu Police Station, located in Agric, off-guard.

Some of the gunmen rode on three motorcycles, while others came on a commercial bus. The gunmen burnt a patrol van and stole arms and ammunitions at the station.

Although he did not give names of the slain policemen, the Lagos State Police spokesman, Kenneth Nwosu, a deputy superintendent, confirmed the incident. He said the attackers were about 30 in number, while the policemen died during a repellent attack. Colleagues of the deceased motorcyclist gave his name as Illiyasu Abdullahi, from Kastina State and had four children.

Aside the deceased, some other patrons of a local tea-drinking joint, were said to have s ustained bullet wounds. At the entrance of the raided station, two police patrol vehicles and an armoured personnel carrier, APC, have been stationed possibly to stave off further attack.
