Nnamdi John, a 42-year old leader of a robbery gang that made a hefty N100million from a single operation, was paraded with seven other members of his gang on Thursday at the Lagos State Police Command.
John and his evil friends were arrested by the Special Anti Robbery Squad, (SARS) on 13 December 2014 for various raids, including on banks, in Lagos and Porto Novo, the Republic of Benin; a filling station and a bureau de change in Mali. Other members of the gang paraded with John were Samuel Igbi, 59; Anthony Umeh, 38; Chineye David, 29; Uchenna Eze, 35; Victor Anamalechi, 45; Ifeanacho Igwe, 35; and Desmond Obinna, 32.
According to the gange leader, the biggest sum made from a single operation was N100 million from a raid in the Alakija area of Lagos. He confessed to building a mansion at Igando area of Lagos. “We made N100 million in the last operation. I used my share to build a house at Igando and I also bought cars,” he said. He also claimed that they never killed on any of their operations.
Igwe, who admitted being given N28million after the last operation, said he built a duplex in his village in Ebonyi State. Igwe had just completed a 20-month prison sentence in the Republic of Benin.
Obinna, who claimed he only drove them to the place the robbery was committed, claimed he was given only N20,000. He said he took no part in the robbery and just functioned as a driver. Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kayode Aderanti, told journalists that his command will ensure adequate security in the state and promised that the arrested criminals will face the law. Items found in the possession of the gang included two AK47 rifles, 11 AK47 loaded magazines and a Toyota Sienna bus.
