Inspector-General of Police Sulaiman Abba has redeployed 28 assistant inspectors-general of police (AIGs) to various departments, zonal commands and formations of the force. One of the re-posted officers is the controversial police chief, Mbu Joseph Mbu. Mbu had been police commissioner for Rivers State, where he had a turbulent reign, occasioned by his persistent opposition to the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi. He was later redeployed to the Federal Capital Territory, where he equally demonstrated intolerance for protests, as seen in his handling of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign. At different occasions, Mbu boasted of his notoriety for intolerance to opposition against the status quo. Mbu is now to head AIG Zone 2 Lagos. The police hierarchy said the redeployment was part of the re-organisation exercise undertaken by the current IGP in his bid to re-position the force for effective service delivery.
