A man, Akodogbo Doheto, 60, has been arrested in Badagry, Lagos State for the death of his 57-year girlfriend, Bonu Fiaret. The deceased, a divorcee, was found dead in Doheto’s one-roomed apartment on Salu Street, in Badagry.
Protesting his innocence, Doheto said Fiaret, whom he dated for two years, was hypertensive. He said they had returned from a carnival the night before her death and had a round of sex before sleeping. Doheto said he woke up the next morning to find that she had died in her sleep, thereby raising an alarm.
“We were lovers. She came to my house on January 2 at about 8.30pm. I have known her for about two years now. We attended a carnival in the area that evening.
Doheto told police investigators that “When we came back, we had just one round of sex, after which we both slept on the bed, and there was no problem. The following morning, I tried waking her up, but there was no response. I observed that her body was stiff. I raised the alarm.”
Despite his narrative, the victim’s family reportedly insisted she was killed after a sex romp. Doheto, a commercial motorcycle rider, is married with a son, but lives apart from his wife.
Fiaret’s corpse has been deposited at a private mortuary, awaiting an autopsy to be conducted on it. Until her death, Fiaret worked as a nurse in a government-owned hospital.
The Punch said the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident and said the case is currently being handled by the State Criminal Investigations Department, Yaba.
