Troops on counter-insurgency operation were reported to have captured five boko haram insurgents and killed 42 others while repelling an attack by the latter on Biu, Borno State, on Tuesday. The dead were also said to have included 15 Chadians, says Mike Omeri, Coordinator, National Information Centre.
Omeri disclosed in an update on military operations in the Northeast, adding interrogation would be conducted on the arrested five insurgents by the State Security Service, SSS, to determine their involvement in other atrocities.
“Those found to have conducted any crime against the state will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law in accordance with international standard and best practice,’’ he said.
He also assured that “The government is fully committed to ensuring that all militants are rooted out of their hiding places to ensure a safe and secure country for all Nigerians.’’
Omeri said the rising scale of suicide bombings by the terrorists showed they were getting short of options.
