Two Saudi Arabian border guards have been killed and another injured near the country's border with Iraq bISIy attackers thought to be on suicide missions. According to the Saudi Interior Ministry, the attackers opened fire on a border patrol near the city of Arar early on Monday. The border security officers were reported to have responded and succeeded in capturing one of them, after which he detonated an explosives belt.
The ministry said another attacker was killed by security forces in the same area. The attackers are believed to fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), who control large parts of Iraq and Syria. The attack around the border was not the first by the militant groups.
Since joining the US-led alliance - which include Jordan, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates - in participating in airstrikes against ISIL, Saudi Arabia has become target by the group.
The ISIL are also abhorrent of the Saudi royal family, which it claimed lacked legitimacy.
