A drama of sort played out during President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign rally Friday in Yenegoa, the capital of Bayelsa State. Also in attendance at the rally was Jonathan’s wife, Patience. The highlight of the event was the endorsement by President Jonathan of the state governor, Seriake Dickson, for re-election in 2016.
“Those who are against governor Dickson should know that they are invariably against me and are working against my re-election as President. Some peoprle are coming to feed you with all sort of lies about the governor and I want to tell you that you must work with the governor”, Jonathan stated.
While the president’s open support for Dickson ripped through the crowd, eliciting excitement, the first lady was visibly unmoved. newsbreak.ng correspondent said Patience did not applaud the president’s statement, as the crowd did. To confirm she has no love lost for Dickson, the first lady did not mention the governor while observing protocol before giving her speech. Our correspondent also noted an attempt by members of the Transformation Agenda of Nigeria, TAN, enamoured by the president’s wife, to boo Governor Dickson while the latter was making a speech.
Patience Jonathan is believed to be supporting a Special Assistant in the Presidency, Waripomewei Dudafa to take over from Dickson in 2016.
