A 79-year old man, Adebowale Dauda, was alleged to have raped an 11-year-old girl in Agege area of Lagos state. He was later arrested and arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court on a three count charge of defilement, sexual assault and breach of peace. During his trial, police prosecutor, Jimah Iseghede, a sergeant, said Daudu invited his victim to a lotto shop at 29, Anipupo St., Pen Cinema, Agege, under the pretext that he wanted her to go on an errand for him. After defiling the girl, he allegedly threatened her with death, if she told anyone what he had done. The lid was blown off his act when the victim’s sister observed a pain she was going through and reported same to their mother. The victim consequently divulged what Daudu did. Tajudeen Elias, the magistrate who handled the trial granted Daudu bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in like sum. He also ordered that Daudu deposit N200,000 with the court registrar’s as part of the bail condition.
