Seun Oloketuyi, a Nigerian blogger and journalist, is to remain in custody pending his bail in the case of alleged tryst involving the managing director of Fidelity Bank plc, Nnamdi Okonkwo, a court said on Tuesday. The Nigerian Police special fraud unit, acting on Okonkwo’s petition to it, claimed Oloketuyi erroneously published on his www.naijahottestgist.com that Okonkwo impregnated his staffer, identified as Justina and leading to her being ejected from her matrimonial home. The story, according to police claims, stated that Okonkwo took responsibility of Justina’s children and had sent the woman overseas to further her studies. The police said they investigated and found the story to be false, adding it was a deliberate defamation of Okonkwo’s character. On account of the said finding, Oloketuyi is facing a two-count charge bordering on contravention of provisions of Nigeria’s Cybercrime (Prohibition) Act and Criminal Act. He made a no-guilty plea though, the court rejected an application for his bail because his counsel made it orally. The matter has been adjourned till 1 September for further mention.
