The decision to recover government assets from former public officers, who served in the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan is not to embarrass them, Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman have said. Shehu said "the property belongs to the Nigerian people. We are not trying to humiliate anyone by asking them to return their cars or houses”, he said in a report by TheCable. "Even here at the presidential villa, there are cars and other property belonging to the government which are yet to be returned.
“Imagine how much Nigeria will save by retrieving and re-using these government properties instead of purchasing new ones for new government officials,” Shehu said.
President Muhammadu Buhari was reported to have set up a special committee for the recovery.
