Boko Haram Landmines Kill Two Soldiers, Wounded Others – Army


naija armyThe military has suffered fresh casualties in its combat against Boko Harm insurgents, just as army claims victory for the troops.

Sani Usman, army spokesman, giving operational details, said ‘troops of 5 Brigade Expolosive Ordinance Devices (EOD) Unit ran into landmines buried by the terrorists while advancing towards Dikwa’.

“Unfortunately, two soldiers lost their lives, while two others were critically injured. The bodies of the two gallant soldiers have been evacuated, to the rear, while the other two wounded soldiers have also been evacuated and are receiving treatment at the military hospital”, Usman, a colonel, stated.

“The unit also lost a Mowag Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) due to the buried landmine between old Marte and Kerenoa junction in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.

“Despite this sad event, the troops are not deterred as they continued their advance and pursuing the terrorists to their enclaves in Sambisa forest”.

He added that troops of 7 Brigade Friday entered and cleared Gudumbali town in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

“During the operation, quite a number of the terrorists were killed their weapons and equipment were destroyed”.

“The troops are currently doing clearance operations in the general area.

“It should be recalled that the Nigerian Air Force has inflicted heavy damage on the terrorists camps within the general area last Monday.

Usman said troops are in high spirits and determined to root the insurgents.
