A 16-year-old who stabbed his mother 100 times until she passed on has been sentenced to 28 years in prison and will be under probation for further 20 years after jail. The killer child, Kiti Darrat, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder of his 35-year-old mother, Renette Emile. The quick dispensation with the case followed Darrat’s guilty plea and demonstration of contrition by apologising for his action. He is to be examined at a mental home.
Before the murder incident, Emile and her son got into a bitter argument, after which he strangled and stabbed her with a butcher knife. He later covered Emile’s body with sheets and blankets for more than one week, partied, skipped school, took care of his younger brother and shopped.
While he did all that, Darrat sprayed his mother’s decaying body with Gain detergent powder to stop the stench it had become. The lid was blown off Darrat’s deed, when his sister suspected and, together with her boyfriend and police discovered Emile’s corpse.
