A bomb attempt reported Wednesday around Anthony area of Lagos was a hoax, the Lagos police command have said. The police said, at about 7 p.m on the day, it received the news that an explosive wired car was stationed in front of a bank around the area, but later realized the car had broken down due to a mechanical fault. “The Lagos State Police Command refutes the news of an intention to bomb a bank in Anthony area of Lagos”, says police spokeswoman, Patricia Amadin, a deputy superintendent. “On Wednesday at about 0700 hours, the command was awakened by the news of a vehicle laden with Improvised Explosive Device, IED, suspiciously parked within the premises of the second generation bank’s Anthony Village branch. “Upon receipt of the distress call, the Police swung into action. The vehicle and the premises were scanned by the Police Bomb Disposal Unit. “Thereafter, the vehicle was towed to Anthony Village Police Station. “The vehicle owner, one Mrs Ronke Dawodu, later surfaced and stated that she was driving home in her car with her children when the car developed a mechanical fault,” Amadin concluded. The policewoman advised the public to go about their lawful businesses without panic.
