Dakuku Peterside and Umana Umana, All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidates for Rivers and Akwa Ibom states respectively, Wednesday had their separate requests for relocation of electoral materials used for the last election turned down.
Both petitioners, who had earlier been granted the leave by the Rivers, and Akwa Ibom, Electoral Petitions Tribunals respectively, made fresh applications that the materials be brought to Abuja, the federal capital territory, where their petitions are being heard against the incumbent governors in the two states.
Tribunal chairman for Rivers state, Justice Muazu Pindiga, and his Akwa Ibom counterpart, Justice Sadiq Umar, in their separate rulings, said the petitioners did not sufficiently convince it why their earlier orders be modified to suit the fresh requests.
In the case of Umana, the PDP claimed he was not eligible to have contested the governorship election, saying the primaries that produced him for the election stop short of the provisions of the Electoral Act. The PDP said the APC failed to give 21 days notice to INEC before it conducted the primary election that produced Umanna.
