A governorship hopeful in Ekiti state, Femi Bamisile, has said the All Progressives Congress, APC, will not rely on President Muhamadu Buhari’s clout to win defeat the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the next governorship election in the state.
Bamisile, also a former of the state’s house of assembly, made the statement when he visited the state working committee of the APC.
“We are not going to rely on President Muhammadu Buhari or federal might to win the coming governorship election. We have the capacity to defeat Fayose on our own”, he stated.
“In the June 21, 2014 governorship election, we lost to the PDP by a margin of over 80,000 votes. But in the presidential election, it reduced to about 50,000 despite that Fayose did not allow some of our members to campaign”.
“With this, it was evident that the APC in Ekiti is very strong. I want to assure our leaders that we will win the next election convincingly. But we have to work seriously for it so that we won’t disappoint President Buhari.”
Bamisile said he had begun dispensing free petrol to commercial motorcyclists in the state, promising to extend the favour to other groups critical to his winning the election in 2018.
Jide Awe, Ekiti APC chairman, lauded Bamisile for giving the party some vigour and advised him to shun violence during his campaigns.
