Bad Night-Out For Manchester Clubs As UEFA Champions League Begins

The 2015/2016 UEFA Champions League started across Europe on Tuesday Night with the two Manchester clubs, City and United suffering defeats in their opening games in what turned out to be a night to remember for both clubs.

United travelled to the Netherlands to play PSV Eindhoven. Former PSV forward, Memphis Depay, had opened scoring for the visitors in the 41st minute before Hector Moreno and Luciano Narsingh stunned United with strikes to spoil the night for Louis Van Gaal’s men. The major loss for the team came when Luke Shaw went down with a leg injury and had to be stretchered off.

Manchester City, with a 100% start in the English Premiership, fell to Italian giants, Juventus at the Etihad. City had taken the lead from a Giorgio Chiellini own goal before Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata both scored to give Juventus victory. The result leaves City still searching for a win in their last six champions league games.

In other games, Real Madrid thrashed Ukrainian outfit, Shakhtar by four goals to nil, CSKA fell One goal to nil against VFL Wolfsburg, Sevilla thumped Borrusia Monchengladbach by three goals to nil and Athletico defeated Galatasaray by two goals to nil while Benfica beat Astana by two goals to nil.
