Couple In Police Custody For Battering House Help


The Police in Lagos have arrested a couple in Ikosi-Ketu for allegedly inflicting injuries on their 16-year-old house help.

Sources close to Ketu Police Station where the case was reported by a good Nigerian, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the wife was the suspect who assaulted the maid.

The incident happened on Aug. 30, at about 9.10 p.m.

According to a tip-off, the help, Patience Oviat, was laying in a pol of her own blood at No 3, Adeyiga Street, Ikosi-Ketu.

The police also said Patience's body was full of different degrees of wounds.

The police, on receipt of the information, had sent a patrol team from Ketu Police Station to rescue the girl.


"The police team rushed the girl to one Elegbeleye private hospital in Ketu area for treatment, while the couple were arrested," the source told NAN.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the girl was brought from Cross River to Lagos as house help to one Abimbola Shita, a.k.a. Iyatomesi.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Patricia Amadin, who confirmed the arrest, said investigation had begun into the case.
