Court Remands Police Constable, Fishermen For Alleged Kidnap Of Officers

A Federal High Court in Lagos has remanded a 41-year-old policeman and three fishermen in prison for allegedly kidnapping nine police officers.

Police constable, Akowe Jacob and the fishermen, Godwin German, 36, Tamarami Tunwa, 23; and Mayibi Hazeez, 29, are facing a 10-count charge bordering on conspiracy and kidnapping.

The Prosecutor, Raymond Odion, told the court that on May 24,2014 at about 9am, the accused kidnapped nine police officers who were on duty.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 33 (1a) of Terrorism Act provides 20 years imprison for any person found guilty of the offence.

Odion, however, urged the court to remand the accused in prison, pending trial.

If found guilty, the accused face 20 years in prison.
