The station was being used by authorities to hold around 800 migrants and refugees.

News reports from Hungary claim the man was running away from police when he fell onto the tracks and smashed his head on the ground.

As news of the death broke, police in Hungary released a statement denying they were chasing the man when he collapsed.

The incident happened about 800 metres from the station in Bicske, west of Budapest and occurred as thousands of refugees began walking along motorways in Hungary in a bid to reach the Austrian border 150 miles away as overwhelmed authorities attempt to block their route.

After four days of being forcibly camped outside a train station in Budapest, hundreds of men and women gathered their families and what little belongings they have to march across Europe. (Mirror)
