The Inspector General of Police, Solomon E Arase ,today, met with the Acting INEC Chairman, Amina Bala Zakari. According to the IG, his visit aims at strengthening the existing ties between the police and the commission.
According to Arase, it was necessary to have strong ties with INEC to achieve its mandate at the forth coming elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states.
The IGP also stated that Commissioners of Police have been directed to ensure adequate security at INEC offices and also at election tribunal sittings.
Acting INEC chairman, Aminat Bala Zakari, receiving the IGP, assured the police chief of the commission’s dedication to working with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure a smooth electoral process in Kogi and Bayelsa.
The IGP has also given State Commissioners of Police a one week ultimatum to report on their compliance to earlier directives from President Muhammadu Buhari, to the IG, on withdrawal of Policemen wrongly attached to individuals across the country, and reduction of Police officers to political office holders.
