A purported pastor, Abraham Akpan, was said to have raped a 16-year-old girl brought to his church for deliverance prayers. He was later arrested and arraigned by the police on a three-count rape charge. According to the police, Akpan was said to have raped the girl after conducting a deliverance prayer on her. Jimah Iseghede, the police prosecutor, told the court that Akpan raped the girl "severally". Iseghede said the 40-year-old pastor committed the crime at an unnamed church at 39, Hassan Ogunmola Street, in Ijaiye axis of Lagos. Akpan pleaded not guilty. Chief Magistrate, Tajudeen Elias, adjourned the case to 21 September to rule on Akpan's bail application.
