Bola Tinubu, former Lagos state government, is mastermind of recent criticisms of his successor, Babatunde Fashola, the Lagos chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged. Fashola has been severely rebuked for wasteful spending due to contract listing published on a government website. Deflecting comments that he spearheaded the attack, Tinubu rather blamed the opposition PDP. In a statement Tuesday, Taofik Gani, the Lagos PDP spokesman, said "it is laughable" Tinubu's accusation against the party. The party said Tinubu and anti-Fashola element within the APC masterminded the attack on the former governor. "It is an open secret that he, Tinubu, is the one behind the attacks and he should an up to it", Gani stated.
“Indeed, bringing the PDP into this is to divert attention from the real issues of fraud in the state. Tinubu and the APC should rather face the accusations and not the accusers. We know well that Tinubu is behind the attacks. He lost cordiality with Fashola since the period of the APC governorship primary.
“Now he doesn’t want Fashola to have any federal appointment. The whole world knows this. He is now jittery and denying the attacks because of the rumoured plans by Fashola to release classified information of fraud during the administration of Tinubu. This is why Tinubu is now jittery and telling lies that we are behind the attacks,” the statement concluded.
