Femi Gbajabiamila, House of Representatives majority leader, will continue to represent Surulere Federal Constituency, as his challenger, Peoples Democratic Party's candidate, Tony Ashikodi, failed to unseat him. Ashikodi, in his petition, claimed 21,715 votes were allotted Gbajabiamila, while his, originally, 16,079, was changed to 14,550. But the tribunal, led by Justice C.U. Anwuka, said Ashikodi failed to prove irregularities he alleged took place during the election. Ashikodi, the tribunal judges stated, failed to call any witness to substantiate his allegation. Gbajabiamila, a fourth timer, faced a tough challenge by Ashikodi, who gained wide support and votes from non-indigenous voters believed to be in majority in most areas of the constituency.
