Rivers state Governor Nyesome Wike has lost his appeal against an electoral tribunal judgement, which removed him from office. Wike's journey to the Appeal Court began with his rejection of the ruling of the Rivers Election Petitions Tribunal that a fresh election be held, owing to a petition by Dakuku Peterside, All Progressives Congress candidate in the 11 April election. Peterside argued that the election was irregular and short of standards prescribed by Nigeria's Electoral Act. With the development, the speaker of the Rivers House of Assembly, whose election had equally been invalidated by the tribunal and currently being heard on appeal.
