Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesman, has said President Muhammadu Buhari is shaken by the deaths and large loss occasioned by the Nnewi, Anambra state fire accident on Thursday. The fire was caused by gas explosion at an industrial complex in the commercial town of Nigeria's south-east state. In the statement, Buhari was said to have lamented the incident, which he said cast a gloom on the families of the victims “who were looking forward to a joyous Christmas celebration’ and condoled with the bereaved. Calling it "unfortunate tragedy on Christmas eve’’, Buhari reportedly said his "heart and prayers go out to these grieving families at this difficult and painful moment’.’ Similarly, the president condoled with the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Barkindo Musdafa and Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele for losing their mothers. “He has placed a call to condole with the Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, who has equally lost his own mother" and "to the Lamido of Adamawa". Buhari described a mother as “an invaluable component of family life, and the pillar and comforter of the children’’, and prayed Allah to bless their souls, Shehu stated.
