A 25-year-old mechanic, Seun Adisa, was amputated after he was caught as his gang robbed the Mokoya area of Olodi-Apapa of Ajegunle, a Lagos suburb. He was found to be in possession of the stolen property of one Augustine Enijore who raised an alarm early that morning that he had been robbed in his home. While the other robbers escaped, Adisa was caught with the N10,000, wristwatch and necklace said to belong to Enijore. Within a split second, a resident had slashed off his right arm with a cutlass. He would have lost one of his legs as well but for the arrival of policemen.
Adisa was arraigned before a Magistrate’s court on Monday with his right hand covered with bandage. He pleaded not guilty to the allegations and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. He was ordered to be remanded in prison pending when he perfects his bail. He was, however, rejected by prison officials who insisted on a medical report before they admit him as an inmate.
