Former Chelsea coach, Jose Mourinho has expressed confidence that he will be the next Manchester United boss should Louis Van Gaal get fired. Mourinho was said to have told his friends that he was headed to the red side of Manchester in the summer. Manchester United have fuelled suspicion of the possibility of it happening as they have refused to openly deny his claims. Although Tottenham boss, Mauricio Pochettino; Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone and Juventus' Massimiliano Allegri have all been linked to the job, Mourinho's remain strongest.

A source told Telegraph that "Mourinho's going to Manchester United. It’s a done deal. Chelsea is the only big job up for grabs."

Mourinho had expressed his wish to remain in England saying he had no intention of unsettling his family who had settled in well in London. The Portuguese will relish the opportunity to renew his rivalry with Pep Guardiola, who will take over at Manchester City. The arrival of the Spaniard to the Etihad has been said to force United to respond. His style of football, poor relationship with the press and his rather poor development of youth cast doubts the United bosses would settle for Mourinho.

United are six points behind fourth-placed City in the Premier League table and Van Gaal is unlikely to survive should the club fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League, having failed to get out of the group stages of the competition this term.
