A graduate of a university in Ibadan was killed in the Oyingbo area of Lagos on Tuesday by an approaching train. The train was aid to have just taken off from the Iddo station before crushing the man, simply identified as Ibrahim. Residents were said to have tried to alert Ibrahim but had been ignorant of the fact that he was a deaf and dumb. He was said to have been cut into two with his arms and legs chopped off. His remains were said to have been covered with leaves and paper and taken away. Ibrahim was said to have been heading to Oko Baba area.
An eyewitness said they had seen Ibrahim walking on the track while they were observing their 2pm prayers. He said all efforts to call his attention were futile as he kept walking on the railway line even as he was being stoned and some poured water at him. He said Ibrahim simply readjusted his cap and kept walking on. It was also gathered that Ibrahim had recently lost a sibling sparking suspicions of a suicide.
A trader in the area who spoke with Punch Metro appealed to the authorities to find lasting solutions to the incessant killing of people by trains in the area. He said a man had also been killed in the area last year. He, however, said most of the people who had died there had either headphones on or were lost in thought.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that the Railway Police Command was investigating the case.
