Chelsea FC may sue Manchester United FC, if the image of the latter’s purported next hiring Jose Mourinho appears on merchandise. Chelsea was said to have, in 2005, bought the rights to use Mourinho’s image on merchandise, and registered him as a brand for five years. Based on the contract, Chelsea will own the brand until 2025. The brand ownership is believed to be responsible for why Manchester United has not announced Mourinho as its new coach. Chelsea fired the Portuguese last December following the team’s abysmal performance.
