Reason US Signed Defence Pact With Senegal

The need to create more leeway for the deployment of American troops to the West African nation facing humanitarian crises, natural disasters or terrorist attacks is the reason for the defence cooperation deal between the US and Senegal. Foreign affairs ministers of the two countries addressed a joint press  conference after signing the deal. "Terrorism knows no border and it's very important for everyone to cooperate," James Zumwalt, U.S. ambassador to Senegal, said during a joint news conference in Dakar with Senegal's Foreign Minister Mankeur Ndiaye.

"We believe that this agreement will help the U.S. military and the Senegalese military reinforce our cooperation together to deal with threats to our common interests."
