Former Arsenal captain, Mikel Arteta has agreed to join new Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium as an assistant coach. The 34-year-old retired from football at the end of last season having spent majority of the campaign on the sidelines due to injuries. He had been believed to favour a stay with Arsenal as the coach of the youth club but has now made the move to join his compatriot in Manchester. He was also wanted by Tottenham before he made the switch.
Arteta and Guardiola were at Barcelona together before the former moved to Everton. The pair were pictured sometime last year having a discussion at the Allianz Arena, when Guardiola had been caching Bayern Munich, after a match against the Gunners in a Champions League fixture. The picture had suggested Arteta was still very much in touch with Guardiola. His move to City is believed to be an added advantage for the side in their chase of John Stones.
