Chelsea’s Mikel Considers MLS Switch

Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has hinted at a move to America’s Major League Soccer. The Super Eagles captain has just one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and is considering his future if the Blues don’t open negotiations any time soon. Speaking with Goal, Mikel said he would love to play with or against former teammate Frank Lampard, who plays for New York City FC. The Olympic silver medallist said it was difficult for him to make coach Antonio Conte’s team since he had missed training while he was away on international duties with the Dream Team VI.

“I know it is going to be difficult for me to get back into the team because I have missed the whole pre-season,” added Mikel. “The manager obviously has his philosophy of the way he wants to play and I need time to get back into the way in the way he wants to do things.

“It will be difficult, but it is one challenge that I am looking forward to. Like everyone knows I don’t run away from a challenge.
