As the 19th edition of the yearly event, Felabration, a festival put together to honour the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, draws closer, organisers of the festival said this year’s edition will be memorable.
Top artistes all over the country have been gearing up to perform at the festival which is expected to hold from 10 of 16 October 2016.
Every year, the idea of the festival is to honour the late Afrobeat legend, human rights activist and political maverick Fela Anikulapo Kuti. This annual musical festival is celebrated around the world with a long list of artiste performing live on stage to a massive number of fans of the great music icon.
According to Yeni Kuti, the daughter of Fela, “this is Felabration 2016. Fela has been dead 19 years. Next year, it is going to be 20 years, and we are hoping that it is going to be big because 20 is a landmark number. Because of the current economic recession in Nigeria, Felabration is going to be staged just for one week. We were not where we were a year before, so we might just have to take things easy”, she said
This year, the festival will be collaborating with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is expected to attract several local and international artists who will honour the late musician with their presence.
The event, which is also supported by 7up and Yamaha have also thrown their weights behind the festival that promises to get a global mileage.
