A supposed Catholic priest has allegedly admitted to raping about 30 girls between the ages of five and ten, a report says. The Catholic priest, Jose Garcia Ataulfo is also alleged to be an HIV sufferer. A report by Mexico’s news medium Urgente24.com says the priest was acquitted of the said offences by the Archdioceses of Mexico after an investigation.
The news medium says Ataulfo admitted committing the crime in the state of Oaxaca, but has not been investigated by a police shy of upsetting the Catholic establishment
However, Fr. Hugo Valdemar Romero, spokesman for the Archdiocese of Mexico, denies the report.
“This supposed priest does not belong to the Archdiocese of Mexico – as Anonymous Mexico asserts – much less has he been let off, as the post irresponsibly and maliciously states,” Fr. Romero told Catholic News Agency.
Pope Francis has insisted that priests found guilty of sexual assault would be thrown out of the Church.
He has also said Bishops trying to cover up abuse carried out by priests would be defrocked, TheSun added in its own report.
