A claim has been made that new born babies are kept in cardboard boxes due to space limit at Venezuela’s health facilities. The alleger, a Venezuelan opposition party, Mesa de la Unidad Democratica, posted photos of the babies online. The picture shows dozens of infants in their improvised cots.
In the report by Mirror, the party captioned the photos: “So the world knows: In our neonatal units at the Dr. Domingo Guzman Lander hospital they are being kept in cardboard boxes due to a lack of incubators. 20 Sept”
The story also says authorities have launched investigation into the report.
The newspaper quoted Venezuelan Social Security Institute President Carlos Rotondaro saying: “We in no way justify the actions taken”.
“Our hospitals take care of hundreds of patients, despite what some media are hiding. We recognize the failures and continue.”
