IGP Deploys 25,000 For Edo Election

Inspector General Of Police, Ibrahim Idris has ordered 25,000 policemen to be deployed to Edo State for the Edo governorship election.

According to Don N. Awunah, the Force Public Relations Officer, the restriction is to be effected from midnight of Tuesday to 6pm on Wednesday. He also stated that the reason for the security measures is to establish a smooth election.

“The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, is determined to ensure that the rescheduled Edo Gubernatorial Election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace and security,’’ he said.

Awunah further stated that the election will enable a fair and credible election which will allow protection of election materials an eligible voters.

He said “The revised election security operation plan will guarantee free, fair and credible election, secure electoral process, enable eligible voters exercise their franchise freely and voluntary, protection of election materials and officials, ensure adequate security before, during and after the election.’’

Meanwhile, he appealed to all security personnels and other sister agencies deployed for the election to be of good conduct.

The election is scheduled to hold on September 28.
