Isheri Kidnap: Rescue Operation Not Our Duty, But … Police

Following the kidnap of three persons in Isheri area of Lagos, a subtle disagreement may have arisen between the state Police Command and its Ogun counterpart over whose responsibility it is to investigate the crime.

The kidnap victims, all residents of Oshorun Heritage in Isheri area of Lagos, were allegedly kidnapped in an area said to be under the jurisdiction of Ogun police command. An inkling of this dispute came from Dolapo Badmos, spokesman for the Lagos Command, who TheNation claimed to have spoken to on the matter.

Badmos allegedly said on rescue efforts:

“The landlords stay in Lagos but they were kidnapped within Ogun. It is not our duty to investigate. We activated response on humanitarian ground. It didn’t matter to us where the crime was committed because lives are involved. But that does not mean we should investigate for Ogun command. It is their duty to investigate.”

The abducted landlords – Kennedy Ucheagwu, Dr. Omololu Bello and Esang – where part of a team of early morning joggers when they were seized. Their kidnappers have allegedly asked for a N900,000,000 ransom before they are released.
