Liverpool were ruthless in their approach when they clashed with Premier League rivals Hull City on Saturday at Anfield. Adam Lallana, James Milner, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho were all on the score sheet as the Reds scored five goals against Mike Phelan’s Tigers. It was Lallana who opened scoring in the 17th minute after a Coutinho pass was put in the back of Hull’s net. More trouble arose for the visitors when referee Andre Marriner red-carded Elmohamady for blocking Coutinho’s shot with his arm. Milner tucked away the penalty before Mane’s delightful finish made it 3-0.
Hull grabbed a lifeline in the second half through David Meyler but were dazed when Coutinho struck almost immediately afterwards to restore Liverpool’s three-goal advantage. Jurgen Klopp’s side capped a dominant display after Daniel Sturridge won a dubious penalty, allowing Milner to dispatch his second spot-kick of the match and move Liverpool above rivals Everton in the top four on goal difference.
The win represents four straight victories for Jurgen Klopp’s men as they sit third on the table behind leaders Manchester City and second placed Tottenham Hotspur.
