Man Bags Six Years Jail For Stealing Mobile Phone Battery

A 19-year-old, Happy Okotie, was sentenced to six years imprisonment by an Oredo Magistrates Court in Benin, Edo State, after he was found guilty of burglary. Okotie and his accomplice, 25-year-old Kingsley Ebose, were said to have broken one store belonging to Tessy Okpebiye on the night of 25 August and carted away one Nokia battery, two Samsung Galaxy phones, one laptop and N17,000 cash.

The police prosecutor, Patrick Agbonifo, said the items were worth N235,000.  According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened sections 516 and 411 of the Criminal Code, Cap , Vol. II, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, as applicable in Edo State.

The Magistrate, Rachael Ogbevoen, handed them the sentences without an option of fine.
