Man Lands In Court Over Alleged Fraud

Ebute A man, Friday Henry, 50, appeared before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court, on Thursday, on a two-count fraud charge. According to court documents, Henry defrauded one Pastor Oduale Jeremiah and a woman, Ajayi Bola, of about N2.5 million in December 2015. The police prosecutor, Sergeant Aboshi Christopher, said Henry obtained the money from the plaintiff on the pretext of helping them buy bags of Soya beans. The charges also say Henry told the plaintiffs he sold the goods on their behalf, though didn’t inform them. The incident happened at the Railway Corporation Compound,Metta.

Henry pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him while his lawyers, O.O Adekoya and F.F Ayodele, blamed the alleged offence on failed transaction. The lawyers also informed the court that Henry had refunded N500,000 to the plaintiffs. The presiding Magistrate O.A Ajibade accepted the lawyers plea not to remand Henry, but directed that he produce two sureties and one of who must be his blood relation.
