Eight people have been arraigned before an Ebute Metta Magistrate’s Court over a N19.5 million theft. The defendants were sales assistants at Alaba International Market, at Ojo area of Lagos.
The defendants were Chukwuemeka Ibezim, 21; Ndiobi Stanley, 20; Ani Christian, 21, and Caroline Emmanuel, 28. Others are Chimezie Ekeh, 28; Chukwuemeka Salome, 28; Okwudili Nnamani, 21, and Anthony Ikechukwu Emenike, 21.
According to court documents, the eight defendants, between June 1 and August 2, 2016, conspired to steal electrical items from their employer’s warehouse – Mega Electric Company Limited.
The stolen items include 15 wheel trucks of mega electric sockets and AVR automatic voltage regulators, the police prosecutors Inspector Goody Osuyi (Esq) and Inspector Adedayo Oladele stated.
The prosecutor added that the stolen goods were received by Chukwuemeka Ibezim, Ndiobi Stanley, Ani Christian, Caroline Emmanuel, Chimezie Ekeh, Chukwuemeka Salome.
The defendants’ lawyer, Spurgeon Ataene, urged the court to admit them to bail.
Presiding Chief Magistrate A. Ajibade admitted the former sales assistants to a N250, 000, 00 bail, with two sureties in like sum.
The bail conditions also stipulates that the sureties must be blood relations to the defendants. They must also present three years tax payment to the Lagos State government.
The matter has been adjourned till October 10, for mention.
