Barely 24 hours after Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode departed the United States as part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s entourage, four state officials are back in America to receive an award on his behalf.
This comes at a time Nigerian citizens are encouraged to endure belt-tightening measures as the country’s recessed economy continues to post grim realities.
The officials, described as “powerful delegation” in a government’s statement, comprise Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti; Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde; Special Adviser on Overseas Affairs and Investment, Professor Ademola Abass; and Chief Press Secretary, Mr Habib Aruna.
There is an indication the officials could be more as the statement said the aforementioned officials include the “powerful delegation” sent to represent the governor.
Habib Aruna, who signed the statement, said Governor Ambode was awarded the “Best Governor In Nigeria” by the African Leadership Magazine.
The ceremony—the 2016 International Forum on African Leadership—reportedly held at the Regis Hotel, New York, USA.
Durosimi-Etti was quoted as saying “Lagos State is open for business, Governor Ambode assured would-be investors that government would continue to invest in security, job opportunity and infrastructure which are the tripod upon which his administration was built”.
